You know all about the benefits of exfoliating (you do…right? Don't worry, skip ahead for a breakdown) and you know the Obagi Nu-Derm 6-step skin care routine is right for you - now you just don't know whether you should get the Obagi Exfoderm or the Obagi Exfoderm Forte. Let's take a look at the differences between the two products and what impacts the one you choose will have on your routine and your skin.

Before we move on however, a quick note on why you absolutely should be exfoliating (no cheating allowed on this one.) Exfoliators work to remove dead skin and residue to achieve a brighter, smoother and healthier-looking skin texture. Dead skin, those pesty flakes, can also create a barrier that prohibits absorption - so no matter how many products to treat any number of skin concerns you use, you won't really get anywhere unless you exfoliate.

The trick is in knowing which exfoliator to use.

Exfoderm and Exfoderm Forte

Step in, Obagi Exfoderm and Obagi Exfoderm Forte. Both products are powerful exfoliators with equal ability in ridding your skin of impurities and blemishes while enhancing it for a healthier and brighter complexion.

So then should I use Exfoderm or Exfoderm Forte?

Depends on your skin type! Choose Exfoderm should you have dry, sensitive skin. Exfoderm Forte meanwhile, better suits those with normal to oily skin. That's the simple breakdown.

The more detailed answer is that Exfoderm will work better on sensitive or drier skin as its primary ingredient is phytic acid, a non-irritant with a gentler approach on your skin. Exfoderm Forte meanwhile relies on tougher-acting glycolic acid which works best for normal to oilier complexions. This exfoliator also contains lactic acid - which, along with glycolic acid, is an alpha hydroxy acid (or AHA). Both AHAs work to combat oiliness while smoothening out skin texture and still hydrating the skin for the least irritation possible.

Is one better than the other? Not all. Again, the only way in which one might be better than the other depends on its suitability for your specific skin type.

How to use Obagi Exfoderm and Exfoderm Forte

We highly recommend you use this as Step 4 of your morning skin care routine. Either Obagi Exfoderm or Obagi Exfoderm Forte should be used after the Obagi Nu-Derm Clear Fx, itself following the Obagi Gentle Cleanser and the Obagi Nu-Derm Toner. This step-by-step process will allow for the most suitable absorption.

Spread a thin layer over your face and massage in gently. Allow for full absorption before you follow up with the Obagi Hydrate Moisturizer.
